How do you change the font in your Instagram bio?

Instagram does not offer fonts for your bio, name or captions, but it does accept any Unicode text. Unicode, the standard every phone uses for text, includes whole alphabets of letters drawn in bold, italic, script and other styles. The generator swaps each of your letters for its styled twin.

Where do Instagram fonts work, and where don't they?

Styled text works in your bio, the Name field on your profile, captions and comments. Screen readers can read styled letters one at a time, or skip them. Use a style for a name, a heading or a single line, and keep the rest of the bio or caption in plain text so everyone can read it.

Which Instagram fonts look aesthetic?

Script, Bold Script and Small caps are the usual picks for a soft, aesthetic look, and Fraktur reads as gothic. Circled, Squared and Fullwidth make letters look like stickers or spaced-out type, which works for one short word. Bold and Sans Bold are the safest for emphasis, because they stay easy to read.

None of the styles is meant for one kind of account. Pick by what you want the line to do: Bold to stand out in a caption, Script or Small caps for a name, Strikethrough or Underline for a joke or a correction. Type the text once and compare all 17 styles side by side before you copy.

Why do some Instagram fonts show as boxes or question marks?

Because the phone or browser viewing the text has no font that draws those Unicode characters. Most current phones show all 17 styles, but older devices, some Android skins and a few desktop apps can show empty boxes instead.

The safest styles are Bold, Italic and Sans, which nearly every device can draw. Most styles change only the letters A to Z, plus the digits in styles such as Bold, Sans and Monospace. Accented letters, other alphabets and emoji pass through unchanged in those styles, so a name with an accent will mix styled and plain letters.

Do styled fonts affect Instagram search?

Yes. Styled letters are different characters from plain ones, so a search for your name in plain text may not match a name typed in Script or Bold. They can also take up more of a character limit than plain letters, because many of them are stored as two units of text.
