A follower count that keeps refreshing while the page is open.

How it works

What is the Live Twitter Follower Counter?

The Live Twitter Follower Counter is a free tool that keeps an X account's follower count current while the page is open. Enter a public handle and it shows followers, following and posts, refreshes the count every minute, and shows how many followers the account has gained or lost since you started watching.

How to use the Live Twitter Follower Counter

  1. Enter the account in the X handle field. The @ is optional, and a profile link works too.
  2. Press Start counter. The follower count appears in large type, with following and posts above it.
  3. Leave the page open. The count refreshes every minute, and Last updated shows the time of the latest refresh.
  4. Watch the line under the count, which shows the followers gained or lost since you opened the page.

How often does a live follower count update?

This counter refreshes once a minute while the page is visible, and shows the time of the last refresh under the number. When you switch to another tab it pauses, and it fetches a fresh count as soon as you come back.

Once a minute is enough to follow a launch, a post that is spreading, or the run-up to a milestone, without keeping X itself open.

Why does an X follower count go up and down?

People follow and unfollow all day, so a count moves in both directions even on a quiet account. The change line under the number shows the net result since you opened the page.

Larger drops usually come from X removing spam and suspended accounts from follower counts. When that happens, a count can fall by more than the account's normal unfollows in a few minutes.

Why is the live count more exact than the X profile?

On a profile, X shortens larger counts, so an account with 48,213 followers shows as 48.2K, and a gain of a few dozen followers can go unseen. This counter shows the full number, digit by digit, which is what makes a change from one minute to the next visible.

The change line starts from the count at the moment you pressed Start counter. Start again and it resets to zero from the new count. To see what those followers do with each post, rather than how many there are, run the same handle through the Twitter Analyzer.

Can I see a Twitter follower count history or graph?

Not from this counter. It shows the follower count as it is now, refreshed every minute, and the change since you opened the page. It does not save past readings or draw a graph, and closing the tab or pressing Start counter again starts the change line from zero.

X does not show a follower history on a public profile either: the profile carries only the current count. To build a history for an account, read the count at the same time each day or each week and write it down with the date. A plain spreadsheet with one row per reading is enough to chart growth later, and it works for any public account, not only your own.

How do I track follower growth on X?

Take regular readings and compare them with what the account posted in between. A count on its own says how big an account is. The change between two readings, next to the posts published in that window, says which posts brought people in.

Keep the counter open during the moments you expect growth: a launch, a thread you have just posted, an interview going out, or a post that is being shared widely. Watching the change line minute by minute shows whether followers arrive in a burst or keep coming over the day. Afterwards, run the account through the X profile audit to check that the bio and header give new visitors a reason to follow once they land on the profile.

Can I see who recently followed an account?

Not here. This counter reads the public totals of a profile, followers, following and posts, and shows no names. The list of an account's followers is on X itself: open the profile and select the follower count. For a protected account, X shows that list only to approved followers.

The counter is the quicker tool when you want to know how many, and X's own list is the place to check who. Some third-party apps offer to tell you who followed or unfollowed you, but they need you to log in with X and grant them access to your account, which this counter never asks for.

What do the following and posts numbers show?

Following is how many accounts the profile follows, and posts is the total count X reports for the profile, which includes its replies and reposts as well as original posts. Both refresh with the follower count every minute.

Following is worth a glance next to followers. An account that follows far more people than follow it back often grew by following others in the hope of a follow back, and its count can fall as those accounts unfollow. To put a value on an audience rather than a size, the Twitter account worth calculator prices a sponsored post from the account's median views.

Questions

How do I see someone's follower count on X?
An X account's follower count is shown on its profile, under the bio, next to the number of accounts it follows. Enter the handle here to see the same count refresh every minute while the page stays open.
Why did my Twitter follower count go down?
A Twitter follower count goes down when people unfollow, and when X removes spam, locked or suspended accounts from follower totals. A sudden drop across many accounts at once is usually the second.
Can I keep a follower counter on screen during a live stream?
Yes. Open this counter in a browser window, start it with the handle, and capture that window in your streaming software. It refreshes every minute and shows the change since the page was opened.
Is this live Twitter follower counter free?
Yes. The counter is free with a free spyc account. It needs no X login and no access to any X account, only the public handle you want to watch.
Does the account owner know I am watching their follower count?
No. The counter reads the public numbers on the profile, the same ones anyone can see on X. Nothing is sent to the account, and watching it does not show up in its notifications.
Why does the counter differ from the X app for a moment?
The counter fetches a new number once a minute, so the X app can show a count that is a few seconds newer. The app also shortens large counts, such as 48.2K, while the counter shows every digit. Within a minute the two agree again.
Does the counter keep running on my phone?
It runs while the page is on screen. When you switch to another app or tab, the browser marks the page as hidden and the counter pauses. Come back and it fetches a fresh count straight away, and the change line still measures from the moment you started.
Can I use it to watch an account reach a follower milestone?
Yes. Start the counter a little before the account is due to cross the number, such as 10,000 or 100,000, and leave the page on screen. Because it shows every digit rather than a rounded figure, you can see the exact minute the count passes the mark.
